Efucal – Efudix + calcipotriol
How to apply: Apply a thin smear of the cream to the affected area morning and night.
Morning application: Always apply to completely dry skin, after washing face.
Night application: Apply the evening dose at least 2 hours before going to bed.
Target areas: Choose only one area to treat at a time (e.g., just the face or a part of it, the scalp only, or the upper chest-neck area only).Treatment Duration by Area
Face: Apply twice a day for 4 DAYS ONLY.
Scalp: Apply twice a day for 6 days.
Forearms and lower legs: Apply once daily for 7 days, covering with glad wrap.Skincare During Treatment
Moisturisers and Sunscreen: These can be applied to the skin after applying the combination cream.What to Expect (Reactions and Side Effects)
This combination cream has a much milder effect than using 2 or 4 weeks of straight Efudix. There should be no systemic side effects, only local skin irritation at the site of application.
The Expected Reaction: Just under half of patients will encounter redness, itching, and a burning feeling. This development of redness is exactly what we want and expect; it indicates that your skin's immune system is actively attacking your sunspots and sun-damaged skin.
Facial Redness: 1 in 5 people will experience only mild redness, while 4 out of 5 people will have very noticeable redness with minimal scaling.
Timeline of Redness: A few people will have no reaction by day 5, but will develop redness at day 11. Redness can last up to 11 days, and the skin may flake and peel. Please be mindful that it can take up to 14 days for all redness to completely disappear.
Uncommon Reactions: Generally, no weeping, crusting, oozing, broken skin, scarring, or pigmentary changes will be seen. However, approximately 5% of people (1 in 20) may react very strongly to the short 4-day course and experience blistering, scabbing, weeping, crusting, and some swelling, especially on the face.Clinical Background
This combination cream was trialled in the USA by the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. The trial revealed an 87% reduction in solar keratoses, with a 39% complete clearance on the face. More importantly, the combination cream boosted the skin's natural immunity to help prevent further solar keratoses and early skin cancers.
